It is extremely difficult to find an original 1981 Camaro radiator. Even if your radiator was replaced
a few months after the car was new, a GM Replacement radiator would have been installed. Although similar in size, this GM
Replacement radiator is NOT an original 1981 Camaro radiator. The photos above demonstarte some of the key differences between
an original radiator and a replacement radiator. The most obvious difference is the driver's side tank on the radiator. The
replacement radiator will have ribs which wrap around the side of the tank. Each rib will be approximately 1 1/4 inch tall.
The ribs on the original tank will be much smaller, approximately 1/2" tall. See photos above for comparison. The other
obvious difference will be that the original radiator will have a metal tag clipped to the passenger side tank. The tank includes
the letters "AL". See photo above.
The radiator cap is another hard to find item.
This original cap is round and solid polished stainless steel and is labeled RC-27, 15 lb. AC Delco
makes a couple of replacement caps that are RE-27, 15 lb. One of the replacements is not very close in appearance, and
one is very close but is made in England. Note that the one in the picture is an original cap.
