Glass Date Codes and Markings

Each piece of the Camaro window glass included date codes and markings. This includes front, rear, side(s), and T-Top glass. All glass was produced by Libbey Owens Ford, which went on to do business as a division of Pilkington. Pilkington now reissues their old glass under the name Pilkington Classics, and ALL glass (Except T-Tops) is now available from Pilkington Classics as an exact reproduction, including the appropriate date codes and markings. In order to get an accurate reproduction, you must provide Pilkington Classics with the exact date codes and markings, and inforamtion regarding whether the etching is an inside view, outside view, inside etch, or outside etch. The above link, although written primarily for second generation Camaros, includes accurate information on applicable date codes for the 1981 Camaro, and other related data.

Pilkington Classics Website

The above link will take you to the Pilkington Classics website. In order to order historically accurate OEM replacement glass from Pilkington, you will need to provide all of the information on date codes, markings, and etchings. You will also need to specifically request that they delete the Pilkington logo etching (Which would obviously not have appeared on the original glass) and make it clear that you want a historically accurate installation. Replacement glass which provides a perfect fit, but does not have any dates codes or markings, is also available from Pilkington Classics at a lesser cost.
